Taipei Cafe is a Taiwanese restaurant nestled in Rockville that offers a broad and genuinely local menu reflecting Taiwan’s diverse street and home-style eats. The space itself feels modest—more about the food than fancy décor—with a casual, no-frills atmosphere where the focus is clearly on getting authentic Taiwanese flavors on your plate quickly and competently.

The menu runs wide and deep, featuring staples like braised beef noodle soup, oyster pancakes, and Taiwan shaved ice alongside more adventurous items such as crispy stinky bean curd and pepper steak. This variety is great for groups that want to explore a spectrum of Taiwanese dishes without stepping into the typical Americanized offerings. Typical meals might include a Taiwanese hamburger (刈包), salt and pepper fried chicken, or the comforting meatball dumplings, giving a well-rounded Taiwanese dining experience close to home.

Service here moves efficiently, well-suited for diners who come in hungry and want their dishes without a long wait. Portions tend to be satisfying without overwhelming, which makes Taipei Cafe a reasonable choice for a weekday lunch or an informal dinner with friends or family looking for genuine Taiwanese flavors in the Rockville area.

The atmosphere leans toward practical and straightforward rather than trendy, making it feel accessible—something locals might pop into after work or during weekend shopping runs. While it’s by no means a place to linger over coffee or cocktails, it does come alive with chatter and the clink of bowls during busy periods, suggesting it’s well-regarded by those familiar with Taiwanese food. If you’re looking for classic Taiwanese dishes with a broad menu to sample, Taipei Cafe fits that bill without fuss.

It's a small shop with big taste. Was just driving by and thought I'd stop in and take a look. The food was fantastic. Would definitely come back here again

There aren't a ton of Taiwanese restaurants in the area, so we had to try out Taipei Cafe. Service is extremely fast; eight dishes came out within 10-15minutes max. The beef noodle soup and fried chicken were excellent! Some of their other dishes (pig ear, stinky tofu) were average at best. Prices are reasonable and portions were decent. Overall not bad but do your research before placing your order.

They have some new dishes now. Pepper steak was delicious. Whole steamed fish was very fresh and cooked perfectly. Please go try everything

Got the meatball (肉圆, more of a huge glutinous dumpling), thinly sliced beef with peppers, three cup chicken (三杯鸡), radish pancake/omelette, steamed fish filet, and yu cai (油菜). Also got a little bowl of ground meat on rice (卤肉饭) which also comes with a tea egg. Everything was very tasty, and very Taiwanese. Highly recommend the meatball (I'm not sure that this is a great translation though, it's not really a meatball) and the beef with peppers.

We tried at the restaurant for the first time and it was a good experience. The food came out pretty fast, and some of the items were good. The place is pretty decent for dining. However, they didn't put any music until halfway to our dinner. Overall, the food is healthy and good service, so definitely try them out. I would probably suggest good music for more positive vibes.

It’s our go-to place when I’m at a loss for a restaurant to go to. Besides, there aren’t many restaurants open on Christmas Day. The food is delicious and comes with generous portions. The service has always been efficient. We always order two of our favorite dishes: fish with crispy soybean and dry combo hot pot. They are as good as ever. Once again, Taipei Cafe delivered a great dining experience!
